2018 MOD BBQ Recap

2018 MOD BBQ Recap

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” –Helen Keller

To all Mid Ohio Divers and the so many others that helped make a difference,

First of all, on behalf of the officers of MOD, we want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of our hearts. Last night after all of the festivities died down and cleanup was finished, we sat around and talked for quite a bit about the impact this event had on all of us. For many of us, this was our first time running this event. The weeks leading up to the BBQ were filled with an anxiousness to deliver something truly inspiring and incredible that would serve as a benefit for all that we hope to achieve in the coming year. At the end of the night, we couldn’t stop smiling and talking about the generosity that our dive family so selflessly demonstrated. From donations, to volunteers, to everyone that came and participated in the auctions and raffles, we were reminded once again of how strong our community truly is; and for that, we couldn’t be more grateful.

To our new guests that came out and to those who participated in a TryScuba, we really hope you got a tease of our underwater paradise and that you’ll be back for more. Divers or not, you’re always welcome!

Despite the dreary weather throughout the morning and at the start, folks kept trickling in throughout the day, and by the time dinner was served and the auctions were starting, we had a PACKED house. In fact, we had exactly 100 people attend!

We also want to take this opportunity to thank all of our volunteers for all of their dedication, time, and hard work. This event would not be possible without the support of the Westerville Jaycee Pool and their staff – Thank you! More special shout outs to Chris Flook – who cooked our awesome hog and provided the tunes throughout the day, Krysten Case – who managed our TryScubas, our door entry was overseen by Brenda Scurlock, and so much wonderful food also donated by Patty, Molly, and the wonderful folks over at Rusty Bucket in Worthington as well. Let’s not forgot all of our wonderful instructors and DMs in the pool: Paul, Chris, Scott, Jerry, Rich, Cassie, and Karen!

Lastly, a big thank you to Columbus Scuba Inc for providing all of the scuba gear, several donations, and of course, Andy’s impeccable auctioning skills!

There are a ton of pictures from the event. Those can be found on DropBox by heading to the link below. Please feel free to download, post, or share any pictures you would like!

So with that, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all of our friends and family for the incredible support. We could have never done this without the support of all of you. Thank you for the constant reminder of what family and community are truly about. We will have more details around how much was raised and what we hope to use it for at our next dive club meeting!! (Amanda made me promise to not steal her thunder). Speaking of, our next meeting will be Wednesday, September 5th at our usual place: The Rusty Bucket, Worthington.

We hope to see you all there!
